From Plans to Progress: Making FY26 Technology Projects Happen

As we launch into the new financial year, many organisations - particularly in the not-for-profit and purpose-driven sectors - have already done much of the heavy lifting: reflecting on the past year, setting strategic priorities, and finalising plans for what’s next.

Chances are, you’ve already identified key initiatives for FY26. If you’re like most organisations we work with, a good number of those plans involve improving systems, processes, or digital capability.

But here’s the reality: it’s one thing to have a solid plan on paper. It’s another thing entirely to turn that plan into real, measurable progress.

That’s where engaging a business-focused Technology Advisor can make all the difference.

Technology often sits at the heart of FY26 goals like:

  • Improving internal processes or workflows
  • Consolidating systems to reduce duplication
  • Automating manual tasks to free up time
  • Enhancing reporting and insights
  • Scaling digital service delivery

But these goals can be deceptively complex. Without the right approach, they tend to stay broad and high-level - “We need better reporting” or “Let’s upgrade our systems” - and stall out before meaningful action happens.
In our experience, three common pitfalls derail early-stage tech projects:

1. Jumping to solutions too quickly

It's tempting to focus on tools - “We need Power BI” or “Let’s move everything to Salesforce” - before clearly defining underlying business challenges and articulating business capabilities which address them. A better starting point? What are we trying to achieve, and why does it matter to our mission or day-to-day operations?

2.  Underestimating the human side of change

Technology isn’t just about platforms - it’s about people. New tools impact workflows, staff roles, and culture. But change management, communications, and training are often under-scoped or overlooked entirely.

3. Treating tech as an IT project, not as a strategic enabler

When technology is siloed from broader business strategy, it’s harder to deliver lasting value. The most effective projects treat tech as an enabler of mission and impact - not just a back-office upgrade.

Instead of jumping straight into delivery, we recommend reframing your planning conversations around these three foundational questions:

What’s the business outcome we’re aiming for?

Are you trying to improve service delivery? Reduce admin load? Strengthen compliance? Are you treating your end-users as important stakeholders? Get clear on the impact you and your team want to see.

What’s standing in the way today?

Map the gap between your current state and your desired future state. Is the barrier a manual process, siloed data, or a system no one’s fully using?

What capabilities do we need to get there?

Now - and only now - should you start thinking about technology. That might include integrations, automations, dashboards, or building staff confidence in using existing tools.

Right now is a unique window of opportunity:

  • You’ve got fresh clarity on your organisational priorities
  • Budgets have (hopefully) been locked in
  • Teams are re-energised and ready to move forward

The risk? Waiting too long to act. As delivery pressures mount and team capacity stretches thin, those early FY26 goals can fade into the background.

By bringing in a trusted advisor now, you can front-foot your delivery - translating strategy into progress before things start to drift.

At Enrite, our business technology advisory service exists to bridge the gap between vision and execution. We work with you to:

  • Unpack the real business needs behind your goals
  • Review your current systems and data landscape
  • Identify underused tools or missed opportunities
  • Co-design a practical, step-by-step roadmap
  • Provide ongoing support to keep projects moving

We’re not here to sell you software - we’re here to help you make smarter decisions, deliver results, and get the most from your existing investments.

If you’ve got projects involving systems, data, or digital transformation in your FY26 plan - and you’re unsure how to move from idea to implementation - let’s talk.

Contact us to have a quick chat with one of our Technology Advisors. We’ll help you prioritise, find quick wins, and map out a way forward that fits your goals and capacity.

There’s no obligation - just a smart way to start the year off strong.
